Challenge:
The City of Monticello needed a pump station with a unique engine configuration capable of operating both pumps instead of relying on standard designs.
Solution:
Excel provided a complete concrete building with a centralized engine that drove both pumps, along with added lighting and other improvements that optimized maintenance.

Pump Station End UserThe City of Monticello is a small central Illinois community of roughly 6,000 residents and serves as the county seat of Piatt County, located in the agricultural corridor between Champaign and Decatur. |
The Challenge:
Monticello, Illinois, required a pump station that deviated from conventional self-priming design. This need created a more specialized selection process among manufacturers. A key requirement was a unique engine configuration where a single engine was capable of driving both pumps, rather than the standard approach of pairing each pump with its own dedicated engine. This added complexity to overall system design, while still requiring dependable performance and practical access. Excel was one of a handful of potential manufacturers for this project.
The Solution:
Excel Fluid Group was ultimately selected among a group of qualified manufacturers as it was able to deliver both the unique mechanical configuration and a full, prefabricated building. While other solutions could meet most of the city's needs, Excel's factory-built approach simplified maintenance and improved accessibility with features such as a 12V lighting setup for the inside of the building. The final design featured a centrally positioned engine to drive two pumps under even extreme conditions such as power outages or level control failure.
