The Hannahville Indian Community was in need of a reliable wastewater pump station to support their new community health and service facility long-term.

Excel provided a custom HDPE pump station for longevity that included an integrated wet well and valve vault designed to help eliminate concerns around ground movement and settlement.

Pump Station End User

The Hannahville Health Center is a community healthcare facility in Wilson, Michigan, offering comprehensive medical and support services for members of the Hannahville Potawatomi Indian Community.

The Challenge:

The Hannahville Indian Community in Wilson, Michigan, was in the process of developing a new community-focused facility with the intent of centralizing several services for the Potawatomi tribe. This new building would provide healthcare services, a food pantry, administrative offices, and more, all intended to serve the residents for decades to come.

In order to support the facility, the project team was looking for a durable wastewater pump station capable of providing reliable, long-term performance. In addition to the need for a long-lasting system, concerns surrounding frost heave and differential settlement at the site added the need for a more specialized system. The project was originally specified as a fiberglass solution, though Hannahville ultimately decided not to move forward with fiberglass as the primary material. This created a need for an alternative design that could fulfill the project's needs around durability, site conditions, and long-term ownership goals.

The Solution:

Brought to Excel by repeat partner Bob Linder of Pump Solutions, Inc., the team worked closely with ISG's engineers to design and develop a custom integrated HDPE wastewater station. An integrated HDPE wet well and valve vault configuration was utilized in order to combat potential issues with frost heave and differential settlement that may have occurred with separate structures. Using HDPE as the base material also provided Hannahville with the durability and reliability they were seeking in an alternative to fiberglass while offering an expected design life of up to 100 years.

In addition to the HDPE well and valve vault, the completed station also incorporated several custom features in order to help meet the project's operational requirements. These include KEEN chopper pumps (both rated for 100 GPM at 70 TDH), a custom Allen-Bradley control panel with radio communication capabilities, and a flowmeter. Altogether, these components created a complete pumping system with the ability to meet the demands of the Health Center while also addressing unique site conditions.
